Thanks Tim. That's not one I'd come across before. In the reference you linked for me, Alexander said that he intended to ask a friend to test it the next day on his Mac. Do you know whether that happened and how he got on if so?

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.
  • 71 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 2,971 new entries have been added and
  • 106 relatives have been matched.
These figures are for the last 2 weeks, and it looks like there were a lot of people on hols.

Don't know about the rest of the world but its hot hot HOT here in Great Britain. :)

Hi Everyone!

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.
  • 56 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 2,024 new entries have been added and
  • 101 relatives have been matched.
These figures are very encouraging, and the trend for all are on the increase.

But I get the impression that not everyone is adding their ancestors to LC. This maybe because they don't know who they haven't added yet or trying to work out who to add is too difficult.
But there is an answer. A simple answer, one that will help them in many ways. FTAnalyzer (FTA) is a really simple to use and install Family Tree utility that helps you understand your family tree data.
Once you load a gedcom copy of your family tree a whole host of reports are generated. The report that I find very useful is on the tab Lost Cousins.

There is a great summary table that tells you how many people FTA has found that can be added to LC. Compare this number with how many you have added to LC, the difference is how many you have still to add. Now if you create a custom fact for each person you have added to LC, the report will now list the people with all the details that still have to be added. Very helpful user guides have been created that explain all of this much better than I can here, so give it a go, you have nothing to lose and only new Lost Cousins to gain!!

Yes, it would be a shame if you left us, and then had to start using Euros and showing passports every time you wanted to leave the country :rolleyes:
 
Not the ideal place to discuss. I'll just say however that people don't show passports travelling from Northern to Southern Ireland or vice versa, you just drive right past and bar a sign don't notice any reason you've passed a border. Even if the vote does go yes that is unlikely to mean you'd need a passport to visit Scotland just as I wouldn't need one to visit England. Euros is a whole other debate, other forums are better suited to such debates.

A quiet week on the whole, lots of people on holiday, enjoying the great weather and being able to be outside.

A lot of WW1 activities going on, and so it's natural to see a slow down while all these events take place. But the future should be good, FTAnalyzer (FTA) continues to evolve and provide more ways of checking your data and identifying who to add to Lost Cousins.

The number of new members is up, so we should see new entries and hopefully matches going up :)

The matches are down again this week, so same as before, I'll keep the graph at zero until we become positive, otherwise it messes up the graph.

Thanks, RD - not sure why the number of matched relatives went down as nobody has left who could have accounted for this.
It's possible that someone has deleted entries on behalf of a deceased relative, although if this is what has happened I wish they'd contacted me first since there's usually a family member who would take the account over and maintain the connections that have already been made.

But I suspect you'll have some good news for us next week because I'm in the process of emailing 24,000 members who haven't yet entered ANY relatives on their My Ancestors page. Even if only 1 in 100 responds positively to the email we should get lots of extra entries and extra matches.
 
That sounds good Peter, I hope you mentioned FTAnalyzer as a tool that could help them identify who to enter?

I decided not to mention it in this initial mailing because it would risk making the process of entering relatives sound more complicated than it is - remember these are people who haven't entered anyone at all yet.

But there will be a follow up in my next newsletter, and that will be the time to remind members about FTAnalyzer.
