Hi Everyone!

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.
  • 41 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 2,140 new entries have been added and
  • 223 relatives have been matched.
Always good to see New Members joining. All numbers down this week, but they're all very good numbers for this time of the year. Even with low numbers the ratio of Relatives added to Matches made is under 10, which means that on average every tenth person added made a match.

Partly thanks to a full page article in the latest issue of ComputerActive and a mention last week in Waitrose Weekend (it's here, amongst the 'Tracing Tips').

It's great to see interest in genealogy (and especially LostCousins) expanding beyond the usual media outlets - perhaps there will be another boom, like the one we had 17 years ago when WDYTYA launched?

Thanks, Katie - I hope so too. (I haven't done a presentation on Zoom before, though I have chaired a number of Zoom meetings which went OK.)

Just a reminder that the figure shown is the net increase in membership, ie after closing accounts. In almost every case those whose accounts are closed have not been taking part in the LostCousins project, so replacing them with new members is a definite improvement!

Taking that literally, it sounds like you close accounts where members are not adding ancestors
I haven't added anything to My Ancestors for some while because I am concentrating on researching my Irish roots and have more than enough contacts and cousins to collaborate with.
Am I in danger of being booted out? :eek:

No at all - I rarely* close anyone's account unless they ask me to. These people have chosen to close their account having never entered a single relative, and in most cases never having read my newsletters either - often they've been members for over 10 years.

* the main exceptions are people who've never entered any data, haven't logged-in for many years, and whose email address no longer works

Not at all - I'd know if that had happened.

There were several deaths (which is, sadly, all too normal), as well as a couple who were getting too old to continue but had nobody to pass their research onto.

It's most likely that someone who had entered their spouse's relatives and copied them to a new account got around to deleting them - but that's not something I'd usually know about.
