Problems with 1881 Canadian census entries

I've input details of relatives from the 1881 census of Canada.
I got the red arrow and clicked on it to review my input. I amended the entry to match the Family Search details. The red arrow still remains. Will this always be the case or is there something else I should have done.

Don't panic. This is normal. The arrow does not mean that something is wrong. It just indicates that the facility to look at the census transcription is available if you, or anyone else, wish to do so. It is also probably the fastest way to get to the transcription if that is not already viewable in one of your open browser tabs.

Perhaps what I should have mentioned is that the display of a red exclamation mark does indicate a probable error. In such a case, two members have entered similar details from a census but there is not an exact match, probably due to incorrect details from one or both.

In my experience this is often due to one member entering details beyond what is actually shown in the census, such as the full middle name of an individual rather than just the middle initial shown on the form. That is one reason why why it might be necessary to take another quick look at the transcription to confirm that the error was not made by oneself.

Thanks for your help. It is useful to know. I use FT analyzer as well and I've just checked it. Where the errors were showing for the Canadian censuses, these have now cleared.

Please bear in mind that FT Analyzer does not check your information against the census and actually creates many errors (because it takes the information from your tree, not from the census). It's a very useful utility but you need to be aware of the need to check EVERY new entry afterwards, not just the ones with red exclamation marks.
