Marriage registers: follow up

On Friday evening I attended the Zoom AGM of a family history society that was followed by a talk by the county archivist. She mentioned a recent conversation with the local Superintendent Registrar who has a pile of Marriage Registers on a desk collected from the churches in the county and awaiting transfer to the county record office.
Is this happening throughout England? My guess is that it will be.

I think it should be happening across England, though that doesn't mean it necessarily is. Previously C of E parishes were encouraged to deposit older marriage registers, but were allowed to hang on to them if still in use - some small parishes were still using marriage registers started in 1837.

But under the new rules these older registers won't be still in use.
