There were 21 unused or duplicate* accounts closed during the previous 7 days, so 24 new members must have joined, which is a good number for any time of the year.

* Amazingly some are both - people join, don't enter any data, then join again and still don't enter any data. One example from last week involved two unused accounts that had been opened by the same person, using the same email address, in 2006 and 2008.

Another good week for new members as there were 32 inactive accounts during the week, hence 35 new members joined.

During the period of the competition I'll be accelerating the process of establishing whether members who have not logged in for many years are still interested in family history, so I expect to close many more inactive accounts in the coming weeks.

The benefit of going through this process is that it encourages members who have not visited the site to come back and, in some cases, add more relatives.

During the past week I have closed 20 inactive or duplicate accounts, so it has been another good week for new members.

In the coming week there are likely to be well over 100 inactive accounts closed as I clear the backlog - writing and publishing 6 newsletters in 5 weeks has prevented me from keeping up to date on some non-urgent but nevertheless important tasks.

A lot of catching up this week - I managed to close 162 accounts that were inactive or duplicates, so there were 22 new members, another good week.

There's still a bit of a backlog, but next week's number should be lower. I find it amazing that people could belong to LostCousins for 10, 15, or even 20 years and not enter a single relative!
