How You can Help Yourself to Taste Success!

Fully agree Peter it is the coverage I was interested in, maybe I didn't ask the query correctly. - my 500 plus American 1940's census cousins have a far better chance of matching if there are already 200,000 names logged rather than 2,000 and it would be nice to know if possible.

There are just over 100,000 entries so far from the US 1940 census, so bang in the middle of the range.

Although it's always sad to lose a member, especially someone who has been an active member of the forum, in a way it's better that someone who has entered a large number of relatives and made numerous matches leaves, than someone who hasn't made any matches at all. Connections that have already been made needn't be lost when someone closes their LostCousins account (they can stay in touch if they want to), whereas connections that have never been made - because a member didn't complete their My Ancestors page - are lost for ever.

Of course, it's better that members pass their account on to the next generation if they can, but not everyone has someone who can take over.

Unfortunately not everyone has a relative willing and able to look after their research until the next generation is ready to pick up the baton (and I suspect that many people reading this haven't nominated a beneficiary either).

Nevertheless, connections that have already been made - as they were in this case - aren't lost just because someone closes their account. Information that has been shared remains shared. I worry more when someone leaves before they make any connections - that is a true loss.
