When it shows a negative number, does that mean people have left? I had assumed it was just a formatting quirk, but looking back at page 70, I see it isn't always there - sometimes (though only when it's a single digit, on that page, anyway), the minus sign isn't there.

It means that I've closed accounts which are inactive or duplicates. Generally it's triggered by a member asking to be removed from the mailing list - if they haven't entered any data there is no point keeping their account open.

The fact that there appear to be more members leaving then joining is because I've made it much easier for members to come off the mailing list by providing an Unsubscribe link: in effect I'm clearing a backlog of people who couldn't be bothered to follow the previous unsubscribe instructions, simple and straightforward though they were, or even to send me an email.

In the vast majority of cases the members concerned have entered absolutely no data despite having joined 10 or 20 years ago; some haven't logged-in since the day they joined. I imagine they were once briefly interested in family history and signed up because it was free to do so. Free for them, but costly for me in terms of time and effort.
