Foundling Births

Is there any way of finding a birth entry for a foundling birth?
I know the year and area where is might have happened but obviously no name.
Any help much appreciated.

There's no magic solution - you have to use much the same techniques you would in any other case where you don't know the name of the individual.

But.... bear in mind that foundlings were often given names that reflected the place where they were found (or sometimes the person who found them).

And, of course, birth registrations for foundlings won't show a mother or father, so there won't be a maiden name.

It is as I thought!
I have found 93 births for the year and location so will go to Register House in Edinburgh and trawl through them asap!

The answer I gave was based on my knowledge of what happens in England - it might be different in Scotland.
