Certificate problems

These things are determined centrally rather than locally, and it is clear from this page on the government website that any marginal notes in the register will be included on certificates issued subsequently:

"The original information will always be shown in the register. After the correction has been authorised, a note will be added to the margin of the register. This will explain what the correct information is and when the correction was made.

All full birth certificates that are issued after the correction will include the note in the margin."

Whether this has always been the case I don't know. But the printed heading on the far right of some certificates as mentioned in post #13 above, and as seen (in part) on the image in #18, suggest it dates back at least to the early 20th century.
