Hello, I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me where to find the NARA Roll No' and the Enumeration District on the 1940 USA Census. I've found the sheet No' but can't find the other two. Many thanks in advance for your help.

It all depends which site you use - this census is available free at numerous sites. At Findmypast they call it 'NARA roll' which shouldn't cause any confusion.

In general look for census references under 'Source' or 'Source citation'. Sometimes the word 'film' is used instead of 'roll'. If you use FamilySearch be careful not to use their own film number.
 
Piggy backing on here. I've not looked much at USA censuses and have just found some relatives on the 1940 census and entered them on LC. Is it usual to not have the little arrow to check the entry is correct for this census? I've tried different versions of the enumeration district 241337 - in case it's 24/337 or 24-337 or 24-1337 - but whatever I put in, there is no little checking arrow generated. Does that mean a wrong entry please?

The 1940 US census can't be checked in the same way as the others as far as I know. I have a few 1940 census entries on my list and none of them have ever had a checking arrow.

You would need someone more in the know to tell you why it doesn't appear.
 
The arrows do not indicate whether or not an entry is correct, they provide a way of automatically searching most of the censuses we use. Grey arrows inherently check the census references, because they search using the census references: typically getting no results or the wrong results indicates that one or more of the references is incorrect. Red arrows do not check the census references. See the Help information on your My Ancestors page for further information.
 
I explained badly. I was expecting an arrow so I could check that my entry matched a census entry. I've added some more 1940 USA census people and there is no arrow for those entries either.
 
Vio, I have one entry on the 1940 USA census and I do not have any arrows. If you read the help information on your My Ancestors page you will see that under the heading " Checking and correcting entries" you will find "(note that it has not been possible to provide an arrow for every census)." maybe this is the answer to your query.
 
Just to clarify, for a given census either every entry will have an arrow, or none of them will. It's nothing to do with the information entered, it's about the limitations of the census sites.
 
Thanks Peter - that was my question in a nutshell. Do 1940 USA census entries have an arrow or not. I've since put in some more 1940 entries and it would appear not. So it's not me, but them!
