Technically, in North America but this seemed the closest heading to put it under (sorry).

I was doing a favour for someone in researching their family and found an uncle was listed as having died at the US Consulate in Mexico City, 1977, but I cannot find any further listing such as his burial (or what happened to his wife, and it seems they had no children). Has anyone had any experience in searching for information in Mexico?

Would it be worth, do you think, writing to the US consulate and asking for information?

It is more likely that his death was registered at the US Consulate in Mexico City rather than him dying there. Therefore he could have died anywhere in Mexico. If he was a US citizen did he live permanently in Mexico or was he there on holiday? If he was there on holiday and the family had sufficient funds his body may have been taken back to the US and buried there.

It's always worth trying the US Consulate but they may no longer hold the records and you'd have to contact the State Department in Washington DC.

By the way, I think Mexico prefers to be considered part of Central America rather than North America..

Interesting, thanks. He didn't show up as being buried anywhere back in the States, but that doesn't mean he wasn't. There was only him and his wife, no children, and he'd emigrated long before from England. I will have to dig again. I don't think even a social security number showed up for him. Hmmm.

By the way, I think Mexico prefers to be considered part of Central America rather than North America..

That's what I'd suspected, but when I googled it did say North America, so I'm not sure tbh.
