For there to be a better than 50% chance of a match when a SINGLE relative is entered over half of all the people recorded in the relevant census would need to have been entered by somebody - and we're a long way from that.

Your Match Potential is a very good indicator of how likely you are to get matches at Lost Cousins. I believe it's quite scientifically calculated, tuned to your own entries. But the short answer is, the more we add, and the more people that join and they add, then the more likely we all are to getting loads of new matches.

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.

• 71 new members joined the LostCousins site
• 7,838 new entries have been added and
• 977 relatives have been matched.

Another great result, nearly 8k new entries, which is pretty good considering it includes the holidays. This gave us a ratio of 8, for new entries to matches, which means that every 8th person added produced a match.

People now are hopefully thinking about Peter's latest competition, making referrals. Remember that FTAnalyzer can help you identify who to add to your referral giving them a huge headstart.

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.

• 59 new members joined the LostCousins site
• 5,287 new entries have been added and
• 825 relatives have been matched.

Another great week. The numbers maybe slightly down but the new entries to matches ratio was 6.4, so on average every 6th person produced a match. Now this maybe a direct result from the
competition that Peter is running but that doesn't matter so much. These new members need to be encouraged to add the rest of their relatives, as they may turn out to be our Lost Cousins!

Peter, maybe you should mention this in your Newsletter sometime?

All numbers up this week, so that's always great news. This great effort gave a match ratio of 9.5, so on average every tenth person entered made a match with someone.

Another great set of numbers. This weeks match ratio was under 8, so there should be a lot of happy members out there.

Even though Peter's competition maybe drawing to a close, we can still all refer new people and encourage them to add their relatives so that we can get matches!

• 8,344 new entries have been added and
• 295 relatives have been matched.

A big increase in new members, probably as a result of Peter's generous make contact with your Lost Cousins offer.

As you can see from the graph, whenever we have an increase in new members, we get an increase in new entries. And when we get new entries added, then we ALL increase our chances of getting a match!

So those referrals that we made, lets contact them again, ask them how they're getting on at Lost Cousins, ask them if they have issues or concerns and lets encourage them to add their family members so that we can all benefit.

• 81 new members joined the LostCousins site
• 4,620 new entries have been added and
• 264 relatives have been matched.

A good set of numbers, I always like to see new members joining as I know (and hope) that this means that there will be new entries added soon, and that means the potential for us all to make matches increases.

Tomb has started a post here that describes how as a new member FTAnalyzer has helped him. I am very happy to recommend this free Family Tree Utility as well, it's something I use daily to find people to add to Lost Cousins, to show me if I have any data errors, to see where I've missed censuses or where my ancestors lived and moved around the country/world. And there's a whole section of reports just for Lost Cousins users!

Thanks for all the updates, can I suggest that for future graphs you use the option in Excel to only show some the date axis value labels, if you showed every 4th one for instance it would help make that axis more readable.

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.

• 290 new members joined the LostCousins site
• 7,720 new entries have been added and
• relatives have been matched.

New members and new entries continue to rise. In fact, 290 new members is the highest number since I began recording! The message is getting out there!

Genealogy in The Sunshine is happening this next week, I'd love to hear some members reporting in on what's happening and their views on what's going on.

You may have noticed that I haven't entered a figure for Relatives Matched. This is because the total matched value has gone down. This is due to someone removing their account. There have been at least 140 new matches, so the new members are busy and you can see from the new entries that they're adding their ancestors.

Like many LC members, I like to keep in touch with how membership numbers and entry of census details are progressing. The figures and graphs provided each week by Red Dragon have been very useful in that respect but recently I have been finding the graphs a little cluttered and difficult to understand.

I had an off-line discussion about this with Red and we agreed to solicit ideas from other forum members as to how they think this information could be more clearly displayed.

One thought is to limit the period for which data is shown, eg show just the last couple of months of data, with perhaps milestones from 6/12/24 months previously for comparison.

Another is to rotate the graph by 90 degrees (either latest at top or at bottom) and to display the 'lines' as 3 separate graphs with appropriate figures and comments alongside, such as . . .

Great idea Bryman. 3 separate graphs would be easier to read because of the axis issues, and restricting the time period would also help.
