How You can Help Yourself to Taste Success!

It's early days yet, we just need more people to check and more people to add!!!
 
At least one forum member has made an extra match as a result of correcting references (see this discussion). Hopefully members will be more likely to add relatives now that they know how easy it is to check that they've got the census references right.

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.
  • 173 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 7,571 new entries have been added and
  • 410 relatives have been matched.
Actually, these results are for 2 weeks, apologies for not being able to post last week.

Everything up this week, everyone has been busy! I wonder if the free weekend at FMP and Lost Cousins had anything to do with it?

Here's a weekly update on how well people have been doing over at LostCousins.
  • 44 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 2,144 new entries have been added and
  • 132 relatives have been matched.
Everything up again this week, great news for everyone. I seen there's been a lot more visitors to the Forum since Peter emailed everyone informing us that the Forum had been upgraded.
Lets hope they join in the discussions.

  • 47 new members joined the LostCousins site
  • 1,658 new entries have been added and
  • 160 relatives have been matched.
New Members and New Relatives both up this week. Entries added to matches was 10.36 this week, which means that on average every tenth person added made a match!
So don't put off adding those ancestors to Lost Cousins! Your matches are out there waiting for you!!

Some odd results this week. Big rise in new members so there should be an increase in new entries and matches in the next few weeks. Relatives matched is very low, could be someone has withdrawn their account? But Peter's comments sound intriguing, he feels a surge is around the corner! Rock on Christmas!

Yes, indeed. I hope it stirs up some action.
I speak as one of the saddo's with (well) over a thousand entries from the 1881 census, forever hoping someone will enter one of 'my' references:(
 
Peter's competition inspired me to add some more details (I have three days off :D) and you will never guess what? The third family details I entered produced a match! It's not a direct ancestor match, but any match is brilliant. I have the hope that I may get some more information about my ancestors from a possible 'cousin' :). I have been adding the 'off shoots' of my direct line, those that are blood relatives and their children and children's children, and maybe this will help me to fill in some gaps I have too?
 
I have likewise been adding new census details of some of my ancestors' siblings (all from 1881 so far), and have made quite a few more matches. OK, so most of these new matches tell me only that existing LC contacts have been more diligent in entering these siblings than I have, but I do also now have a new contact.

I'm still waiting to hear back from this new contact so I don't know yet if we've "met" elsewhere but it's all progress. :)

Well done, Carla - that 's precisely the strategy to use. Most of our living cousins don't share our direct ancestors from 1881, they share ancestors from an earlier generation - which means that their direct ancestors are our collateral lines (and vice versa).

It would be great if it was a forum member who won the top prize in the competition, though last time I checked three-quarters of forum members hadn't entered yet......
