Proof of Age Requirements.

We all know that during WW1, many under-age boys (and a few over-age boys) joined up by falsifying their ages. I also have a young woman who fudged her age in order to marry without parental approval.

Does anyone know when authorities started to require proof of age? (i.e. a birth certificate).
