managing someone's DNA

Hi , I remember reading an article in one of Peters newsletters about how simple it was to manage a relative's DNA results . I have read his DNA masterclass but couldn't see any reference to how to manage someone else's DNA in that . I have a very frail elderly relative who would like to do a test for me but can't manage a computer ,I am aware that they need to register the results on their own ancestry login . Is there a way I can do this for them on my laptop ? and does anyone recall which newsletter the article was in please as I remember it was very informative .Thank you

This was one of the topics in the DNA talk I gave this morning - you might want to listen to the recording (the link will be posted shortly). I didn't cover all of the points you've raised here, but the key one is that you'll need get an email address for your relative (or use a spare one of your own) as you can't have two Ancestry accounts under the same email address.

You'll need to register your relative with Ancestry (assuming you have their informed consent) and appoint yourself Manager of their test. The newsletter article won't help with this as Ancestry have reorganised their site since it was written, but go to DNA Settings and look for DNA test sharing.

I'm just going through this process. I bought my cousin a DNA test and said that I would manage her results. I have already set up a tree for her. She said she hasn't sent off the DNA test yet (worried that the weather in the UK might cause problems) and I don't think she's registered the kit yet. So I clicked on DNA -> Register a kit and clicked on "someone else". Then I was asked to put in her email address inviting her to register the kit. In this way, she can easily register the kit by clicking on the link in the email. After this, she has to invite me to manage their test. Once she's done this, I can manage her test settings, send and receive messages from her account and invite others to see the results. I can also link the DNA test to the family tree on my account.
