Found this article on the website of The Age newspaper in Melbourne, Australia. It's certainly true in my family, with the notable exception of my maternal grandfather's line. Most of my ancestors were what I like to call "upper working class". They were mainly tradesmen, farmers and shopkeepers with only the occasional foray into wealth or poverty. This situation remains to this day.
